Think of this as a quick reference guide for what you need to know about CBD and it’s benefits.

If you have been toying with the idea of incorporating CBD into your daily routine, then this is a must read.

Recess: What is CBD?

Jeffery Johnson (JJ): Though CBD may seem like the new kid on the block, the benefits have been noted for years. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a phytocannabinoid, one of many compounds found in the Cannabis plant.  Though there’s over 6,000 years of recorded use of cannabis topicals, CBD was first isolated in the 1930’s, before many other well-known compounds, like THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) were discovered.  CBD is unlike THC in that it does not have an intoxicating effect on the body.

Recess: How is it sourced?

JJ: CBD is extracted from the Colorado Grown Industrial Hemp that has met strict Federal Guidelines. It’s biological name is Cannabis Sativa. TRUTST Biologic uses pure CBD which is isolated from all the other cannabinoids and compounds found within the plant.

Recess: How can it be used? What benefits does it offer your regular routine?

JJ: Like all cannabinoids, both made by our bodies (endocannabinoids) and found in plants (phytocannabinoids), CBD communicates with the body’s Endocannabinoids System. The message? To achieve balance. There are several ways we can recognize an out of balance body, which is why there are such a variety of CBD infused products entering the market. From soft gels, tinctures and edibles, to mouth-sprays, pain relieving salves and foot creams, weeding through the information to understand how CBD works can be challenging. In skin, we can note several opportunities where the body shows it is out of balance: acne, aging, dehydration, uneven complexion.

Recess: Does it really work?/ What are the biggest benefits of CBD mentally and physically?

JJ: Yes! Topical CBD products owe their potency to the skin’s high concentration of cannabinoid receptors. Cannabinoid receptors, such as CB2 receptors, are crucial components of the body’s peripheral endocannabinoid system. People who experience itchiness, skin dryness, aches, stiffness, sprains, spasms, arthritis pain, chronic pain, sore joints and joint pain, and sore muscles and muscle pain can find relief using a topical creams, serums, and salves. Topical products provide a soothing sensation and can ease stress and pain, encourage relaxation of the affected areas, and help rejuvenate the skin.

Internal CBD products made from pure CBD or a full-spectrum hemp extract can be beneficial for ailments that are not able to be targeted by topical products, in addition to increasing the efficacy of those topicals. High-quality CBD internals lack detectable levels of THC, allowing for consistent therapeutic benefits without the psychoactive effects of THC.

Trying new things can be exciting and also nerve racking. It’s clear that there are several benefits to weaving CBD into your lifestyle the key is figuring out what works best for you!
